Artificial Intelligence vs AGI vs Superintelligence
AI, AGI and superintelligence are related ideas, but they are not interchangeable. The distinctions matter for business decisions and public policy.
Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the broad category. Today’s systems can generate language and images, analyse data, write software and automate defined tasks, while remaining uneven and dependent on human direction.
Artificial general intelligence
AGI usually means a system able to perform a broad range of intellectual tasks at or beyond human level. There is no universally agreed test and no consensus that AGI has been achieved.
Superintelligence
Superintelligence goes further: capability that significantly exceeds human intelligence across many important domains. It remains a prospective concept rather than an established description of current systems.
